Letter Dated 27 May 2021 From The Permanent Representative Of Eritrea To The United Nations Addressed To The President Of The Security Council≪

Reference: S/2021/510 Annex to the letter dated 27 May 2021 from the Permanent Representative of Eritrea to the United Nations addressed to the President of the Security Council "The current situation in the Tigray Region of Ethiopia is the direct and cumulative consequence of misguided measures pursued, by successive United States Administrations in the last two decades, to prop up and embolden the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) to flagrantly violate international law with impunity and to indulge in acts of continuous regional destabilization.  The United States marshalled its diplomatic clout in support of the TPLF regime when the latter rejected the Security Council-guaranteed Eritrea-Ethiopia Boundary Commission final and binding award of 13 April 2002. The TPLF regime not only continued to occupy sovereign Eritrean territories, but persisted in its acts of belligerence by intermittently launching provocative military a ssaults against Eritrea in the period there...

Letter Dated 24 May 2021 From The Permanent Representative Of Turkey To The United Nations Addressed To The President Of The Security Council≪

Reference: S/2021/496 Letter dated 24 May 2021 from the Permanent Representative of Turkey to the United Nations addressed to the President of the Security Council  With reference to the allegations contained in the letter from the Permanent Representative of Iraq dated 26 January 2021 and the letter from the Permanent Representative of Iraq dated 6 May 2021 (S/2021/448), I would like to emphasize that, in the absence of Iraq’s ability to deal with the presence of terrorist organizations in its own territory, Turkey is obliged to take appropriate measures against terrorist threats to its security emanating from Iraq.  Any criticism of Turkey for exercising its inherent right to self-defence, as outlined in Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, and for acting within the context of the responsibility attributed by relevant Security Council resolutions to States Members of the United Nations in the fight against terrorism, is unacceptable.  I would be grateful if ...

Reference: S/PV.8782 (The situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question) Mr Mansour (Palestine):  How can Israel justify the fact that its courts condemn Palestinians who are simply exercising their rights? How can it justify that its courts condemn the fact that Palestinian children are seeking refuge when Palestinian children are attacked and killed among their families with their parents? How is all of this going to be justified? Who will believe Israel after all of this?  Did the Security Council not receive the many United Nations reports sounding the alarm about the catastrophic situation in Gaza? We have heard a lot of the information in such reports delivered to us today: those reports issued a warning regarding a situation on the verge of collapse.  We were warned about the possible resumption of violence for the past 15 years as a result of the resumption of Israeli violence. Did Palestinians not speak out during the Great March of Return? The...

Letter Dated 30 April 2021 From The President Of The Security Council Addressed To The Secretary-General And The Permanent Representatives Of The Members Of The Security Council≪

Reference: S/2021/418 Statement by the Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations, Majid Takht Ravanchi After 10 years of conflict, it has become crystal clear that the Syrian crisis has only one solution: a truly Syrian-led, Syrian-owned, United Nations-facilitated political process. This indeed was the raison d’ĂȘtre for formation of the Astana format, which has promoted a peaceful settlement of the crisis, including through supporting the establishment of the Constitutional Committee. To that end, regular and close consultations by our Special Envoy on Syria with Mr. Pedersen, United Nations Special Envoy for Syria, have continued. We will encourage the co-Chairs to commence the Constitutional Committee’s next meeting soon. The Committee’s work must continue according to its rules of procedure, without foreign interference or externally imposed timelines. While a political solution cannot be achieved in isolation or overnight, the Committee’s succe...

Reference: S/2021/463 Identical letters dated 12 May 2021 from the Permanent Representative of Israel to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council  I write with great urgency regarding the latest acts of terror against Israel perpetrated by Palestinian terrorist groups, first and foremost Hamas, over the past two days.  Since Monday morning, 10 May 2021, over 1,500 rockets have been launched by Palestinian terror groups from the Gaza Strip towards Israeli civilian communities and major metropolitan areas throughout the country, including Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Ashkelon and Ashdod. These attacks have resulted in seven fatalities, among them a 16-year-old girl, her father and a 6-year-old boy, and hundreds more have been injured. As of today, millions of Israeli civilians are under relentless attacks by these terrorist organizations and are forced to remain in shelters. Schools and kindergartens are closed owing to the threat, ...
